Picnic & Camping Supplies
To maximize your dollars, stock up on camping items at a grocery store in a larger city, if possible. In general, prices are lowest in Flagstaff and rise steadily as you near the canyon, peaking at the Canyon Village Marketplace inside the park.
South Rim
The Canyon Village Marketplace ★ In Grand Canyon Village’s business district, this general store is the park’s largest and most comprehensive retailer. Customers come here for groceries, canyon souvenirs, liquor, electronic and automotive goods (though supply is somewhat limited), outdoor clothes, camping provisions, and hiking and backpacking gear. Some camping equipment can be rented overnight, including tents, sleeping bags, backpacks, stoves, daypacks, trekking poles, and hiking boots. The knowledgeable staff members gladly offer information about park trails and camping. There’s also a tasty deli here, as well as an ATM at the Chase bank next door.
In Grand Canyon Village. 928/638-2262. June–Sept daily 7am–9pm; Oct–May daily 8am–7pm.
Desert View Store The Desert View Store has souvenirs, beer and wine, a limited selection of groceries, and camping supplies.
At Desert View (off Hwy. 64). 928/638-2393. Daily 9am–5pm (summer 8am–6pm).
North Rim
North Rim Country Store The North Rim Country Store lies outside the park, just across from DeMotte Campground and near Kaibab Lodge. It has a gas station and convenience store selling basic groceries, camping supplies, beer, wine, ice, firewood, and hunting supplies. There’s also an ATM, a restroom, and telephones here (which you might need since cellphone coverage in this area is nonexistent).
Hwy. 67, 26 miles south of Jacob Lake. 928/638-2383. www.northrimcountrystore.com. May 15–Nov 1 daily 7am–7pm.
North Rim General Store The North Rim General Store is small but well-supplied with groceries, gifts, sundries, beer and wine, and a limited supply of camping equipment, including flashlights, stoves, cooking ware, sleeping bags, mats, ponchos, and insect repellant. However, it cannot outfit backpackers. Free Wi-Fi is available here, which can be accessed inside or from one of the outdoor tables (even when the general store is closed).
Adjacent to North Rim Campground. 928/638-2611. Daily 7am–8pm (may vary).
